In A Worn Path, Phoenix faces several obstacles as she makes her way toward her destination, but she continues because she has an important reason for completing her journey. Think about a time when you had to travel somewhere or work through obstacles to reach a destination or goal. What challenges did you face along the way? Was the journey worth it in the end? Explain why or why not.

One time I sort of went through a challenge to reach a goal was last year before a lacrosse game vs GAC. I’d still never scored a goal in a game up to that point, and it was a still a JV game. But I scored a hat trick just 3 days after I severely strained both of my calf muscles during practice. Those goals felt amazing because the coaches didn’t seem to care after I got hurt and I had to warm up and stretch very well before the game, and I wasn’t even feeling that great, knowing that I would run down the field and back and start hurting again, but that never happened.

Today in class we continued reading “A Worn Path,” and analyzed some quotes from the story.

It’s an interesting story with not as much of a deeper theme but dives more into character development and personalities. Phoenix’s actions help a lot in understanding the message though.
