Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

It was in 3rd grade when I wrote a full poem, and it was for a competition where poems would go into a book from students all over the country. I wrote it in about 10-20 minutes, on my computer, and it was honestly a bunch of random gibberish about a thing going through transformations until it died. I was proud at the time since I thought it was creative, and my parents were happy too, but looking back it really was a goofy poem. More of a short story, anyways. There was no meaning. Just action, then death in 5-6 lines.

Today in class we read a new poem.

It’s interesting how reading a poem 2-3 times gives you full meaning. Especially after completing the paper, I feel like it was really good for my literature skills, analyzing it in a class period the way we did.
